March 31st Deadline Approaching For Disaster Assistance Registration And SBA Loan Packets

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The deadline to apply for disaster assistance and to complete the SBA loan packets is fast approaching. It is Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Washington residents affected by the January 6-16, 2009, winter storm, landslides, mudslides, and flooding are urged to register for assistance and to complete the loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), if one is sent to them. Officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD), and the SBA stress that the SBA loan application must be completed for consideration for various other types of assistance programs.

Individuals affected by the recent storms, flooding and landslides in the following Counties are eligible for FEMA disaster assistance:

Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Pierce, Thurston, Clallam, Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Kittitas, and Benton Counties

Applicants can register for FEMA assistance by calling, toll-free, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA), TTY 1-800-462-7585, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, or register online at www.disasterassistance.gov. Registration is available until March 31, 2009.

FREE LEGAL SERVICES FOR LOW-INCOME STORM VICTIMS: Washington Lawyers Activate Hotline 1-866-519-7099:

The Washington State Bar Association (WSBA), the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division have established a legal services line to provide free legal services for victims of recent storms, flooding and landslides. 

Storm victims in need of legal assistance are advised to call 1-866-519-7099, provide contact information and the nature of the problem and you will be called back by a volunteer attorney. http://www.wsba.org/media/releases/stormvictims0209.htm

The National Disaster Legal Aid web site was created to provide legal resources to those who have been directly affected by a disaster. Includes general information helpful to disaster relief on housing, insurance claims, insurance, employment, and other vital issues.
