Partial Government Shutdown: How it Affects Your Benefits

Authored By: DSHS

Information on how the government shutdown affects your public benefits.

You might get your February 2019 food benefits earlier than you are used to. Some clients will get their February benefits on January 20. This is because of the federal government shutdown.

These early benefits are not extra. If you get your food benefits early, you won’t get more in February. Even if the shutdown ends before March, the next time you could get benefits may be in March. You should budget with this in mind.

This applies to the following programs:

  • Washington Basic Food Program (Basic Food)
  • Washington Combined Application Project (WASHCAP)
  • Food Assistance Program for Legal Immigrants (FAP)
  • Transitional Food Assistance (TFA)
